The thing our data does not tell you
RakeRadar exists to show what a bet costs. Everything on this site is built to help a player who has already decided to gamble do it at a lower mathematical cost.
None of it is a reason to gamble, and a lower house edge does not make gambling safer in any behavioural sense. It reduces the cost per bet, which for a player prone to chasing losses can extend a session rather than protect a bankroll. The maths and the psychology are separate systems, and improving one does nothing for the other.
A game at 100% return to player will still take your money if you keep playing long enough with a finite bankroll. That is not a flaw in the maths, it is what the maths says.
Signs worth taking seriously
Gambling has stopped being entertainment when any of these is true. Betting more than you decided to. Returning to recover losses. Hiding how much you play. Borrowing to fund it. Playing to change how you feel rather than because you want to. Losing interest in things you used to enjoy.
None of these require a crisis to be worth acting on. The point at which a habit is easiest to change is well before it looks like a problem to anyone else.
Tools that actually work
Deposit limits. The most effective single control, because it acts before the money is in play rather than after. What separates a serious implementation from a decorative one is the delay on loosening: a limit you can raise instantly mid-session is not a limit.
Loss limits and session timers. Useful for the player who loses track rather than the player who decides to continue.
Cooling-off and self-exclusion. The right tool when limits are not holding. Note that at operators without a tier-one licence, self-exclusion does not connect to any cross-operator scheme. Excluding yourself at one casino excludes you at that casino only.
Blocking software. Gamban, BetBlocker and similar tools work at the device level and do not depend on any operator cooperating.
