Casino Glossary

Casino glossary – definitions: wagering, RTP, KYC, AML, cashback, free spins, volatility, max cashout, pending payout and more

Glossary of Terms – Online Casinos, Bonuses, Payments and Withdrawals (Mega Guide)

If you are just getting into online casinos, the industry has one “talent”: talking to you in abbreviations that sound like codes from spy movies. RTP, wagering, KYC, AML, max cashout, sticky bonus, pending… Then you make a deposit, claim a bonus, and suddenly it turns out that “it is not that simple”.

This glossary is your map. We explain each term in plain language, with context: what it means, why it matters, and where it can hurt you in practice (or save you). It is also a strong SEO hub – we will link to it from reviews and guides so you don’t have to Google definitions during a withdrawal.

Pro tip: if you are reading a review and see a word you do not understand – come back here. Most player problems arise not from bad luck, but from misunderstanding the terms.

A

Account verification (Verifying your account)

The process of confirming a user’s identity by the operator (often as part of KYC). It usually includes an ID document, proof of address, and sometimes payment method verification. It most often comes up at the first withdrawal or for larger amounts.

Affiliate link (Affiliate link)

A link that contains a partner identifier. If you go through such a link and perform certain actions with the operator, the site may receive compensation. Important: affiliation is not a guarantee of quality or legality in your jurisdiction. See: Privacy policy and Cookie policy.

AML (Anti-Money Laundering)

Anti-money laundering procedures. In practice: the operator may ask for documents, proof of the source of funds, transaction history and other data. AML is the reason why “no verification ever” is usually a myth – especially with larger withdrawals.

Auto-play

A slot feature that lets you launch a series of spins automatically. Convenient, but dangerous for your budget, because you lose control over the pace of play much faster.

Approval (Withdrawal Approval)

The stage where the operator “pushes” the withdrawal through for processing. In practice, this is often the biggest delay – even if the payment method itself is fast. If speed matters to you, check not only the “processing time” but the approval stage itself.

B

Banking (Cashier / Payments Section)

The place where you make deposits and withdrawals. To us, it’s the heart of the platform. If the cashier is unclear, hides limits or withdrawal methods – that’s a red flag. Guide: Payments.

Bet limit (Stake Limit)

The minimum and maximum stake in a game or within a bonus. Especially important with bonuses: there is often a bet limit while wagering, and breaking it can void the winnings from the bonus.

Local payment method

A popular payment method in restricted markets (a code generated in your banking app). Usually excellent for deposits, but withdrawals aren’t always available via the same method. See: Local payment methods.

Bonus

An operator promotion (e.g. a deposit bonus, free spins, cashback). A bonus almost always comes with terms that affect your withdrawal: wagering, bet limits, max cashout, game exclusions. See: No Deposit Bonus and Cashback Bonuses.

Bonus balance (Bonus Balance)

Bonus funds that usually aren’t “yours” to withdraw until you meet the conditions. Sometimes winnings from a bonus go to a separate balance and are restricted by the terms and conditions.

Bonus buy

A feature in some slots that lets you buy entry into a bonus round for a set amount. It speeds up the “action”, but increases variance and the risk of a quick loss.

C

Cash game

Playing with real money (no bonus restrictions). For many players, this is the cleanest model: no wagering, no “bonus” bet limits, easier withdrawals.

Cashout

Withdrawing funds from a player’s account. In practice, cashout is a process: request → verification → approval → payment execution. See: Instant withdrawals.

Cashback

A refund of a portion of your losses (e.g., weekly). Cashback can be more “player-friendly” than a classic deposit bonus because it usually involves less friction. See: Cashback bonuses.

Chargeback

A card payment reversal procedure handled by a payment processor/bank. In gambling, it can be problematic and may lead to your account being blocked by the operator. It’s a “heavy” topic that depends on terms and conditions and jurisdictions.

Cooldown / Cooling-off

A responsible gambling feature: a temporary account block so you can take a break. If you feel you’re losing control, this is one of the best tools available. See: Responsible gambling.

Crypto casino

A casino that accepts cryptocurrencies for deposits/withdrawals. For many users, the advantages are speed and the “wallet” nature, but there’s also exchange rate risk (except for stablecoins like USDT). See: USDT casinos, Bitcoin casinos, Litecoin casinos.

D

Deposit (Deposit / payment)

A deposit of funds to the player account. A deposit is the start of the “deposit method → withdrawal method” path. Many operators require withdrawals to be made using the same method or at least that you “close” the deposit trail (AML rules).

Deposit bonus (Deposit bonus)

A bonus awarded after a deposit (e.g. 100% of the deposit). It almost always has wagering and conditions that can make withdrawal difficult if you do not understand them.

Dice / Crash / Plinko (Instant games)

“Instant” games, popular in crypto casinos. Fast rounds = fast excitement = greater risk of impulsivity. Good for short sessions, bad for “chasing losses”.

E

e-Wallet (Electronic wallet)

A payment method such as Skrill, Neteller, etc. The advantage is often that withdrawals are easier than to a card, but this depends on the operator. See: Skrill.

EV (Expected Value)

Expected value. In casinos with a house edge, EV for the player is negative in the long term. This does not mean you cannot win in the short term – but the math is on the operator’s side.

F

Free spins (Free spins)

Free spins on slots, often with conditions: validity, selected slot, max cashout, sometimes wagering on winnings. See: Free spins.

Fiat (Traditional currency)

Currencies such as EUR, USD (as opposed to cryptocurrencies). For many users, fiat is simpler and less risky in terms of exchange rates.

Fraud (Fraud / abuse)

Operators monitor fraud and may block transactions/accounts if they see suspicious patterns. Sometimes rightly, sometimes “too harshly” – which is why the operator’s transparency and support quality are important.

G

Geo-block (Geolocation block)

Restricting access to a website/service based on location (usually IP). The service may use geo-blocking (e.g. in your jurisdiction). Bypassing blocks is prohibited in our Terms.

Game provider

A company that creates games (slots, live, instant). Providers influence the quality of UX, RTP, stability and game style. A good casino shows its providers and allows filtering.

H

House edge

The operator’s mathematical advantage in the long term. This is the reason why the casino makes money. For the player, it is important to understand: the greater the house edge, the higher the cost of entertainment in the long run.

High roller

A player who bets high stakes. High rollers often have different limits, processes and a VIP offer, but they usually also face stricter KYC/AML procedures.

I

Instant withdrawal

A marketing slogan that in practice means “fast processing”, but depends on: approval + method + KYC. That is why you should always look at the whole process, not just the banner. See: Instant withdrawals.

K

KYC (Know Your Customer)

Customer identity verification. Most often: ID document, selfie, proof of address, sometimes payment method verification. KYC often kicks in at withdrawal. See: Casinos without KYC.

Know Your Transaction (KYT)

In the crypto context: procedures that analyze blockchain transactions (e.g. address risk). It may cause delays or additional questions for crypto withdrawals.

L

Live casino

Live games with a dealer (roulette, blackjack, baccarat). Usually a faster pace and a “real feel”, but also higher stakes and a greater risk of long sessions.

Loss limit

A responsible gambling tool that limits losses over a set period. If you tend to chase losses, this is a very good safeguard. See: Responsible gambling.

M

Max cashout (Maximum bonus payout)

A bonus payout limit (e.g. “max 100 EUR from free spins”). This is one of the most common disappointments: you may win more, but you can only withdraw up to the limit, and the rest is forfeited (depending on the T&C). Always check the max cashout for no-deposit bonuses and free spins.

Min/Max withdrawal (Min/Max payouts)

The minimum and maximum withdrawal amounts. Sometimes the operator has daily/weekly withdrawal limits. This affects the “actual” speed of withdrawing large amounts.

Mobile casino

A casino optimized for smartphones: easy-to-use cashier, thumb-friendly UX, stability. See: Mobile casinos.

N

No deposit bonus

A bonus with no deposit required. It sounds great, but it almost always has strict limitations: max cashout, wagering requirements on winnings, and KYC at withdrawal. See: No deposit bonus.

No-KYC casino

Platforms that advertise simplified verification. In practice, KYC may still be required for larger withdrawals or for AML checks. See: No-KYC casinos.
